Here’s What You Can Do For Cats & Dogs Natural Diet Feed your pet food that does not include artificial additives, such as BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) and BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene). These artificial additives are added to pet food to extend the use of the product, so please read the labels. Homemade diets are best, of course! For Dogs: - 1/3 Meat
- 1/3 Cooked Grains
- 1/3 Finely Chopped Vegetables
For Cats: - 60% Meat
- 20% Cooked Grains
- 20% Cooked Vegetables
If preparing homemade meals for your pet is too time consuming for your schedule, buy natural food holistic or natural pet food stores. Calendula This anti-viral and anti-inflammatory extract comes from pot marigold, which is in the daisy family, Asteraceae (aster, daisy or sunflower family). You can get this in ointment form. Apply it twice a day or even three times a day to your pet’s itchy areas. Use Echinacea You can get this in tablet or liquid form. This herb can help strengthen the immune system. Add two to four drops of extract to one ounce of water and squirt a dropper full into your pet’s mouth. Do this before allergies flare up. Give Vitamins You can give vitamin C to your pet to help with allergic reactions. Pets 15 pounds or more need 500 to 1,000 milligrams a day. You know you need to lower their dosage if they get diarrhea. Give Them Essential Fats Supplement their food with flaxseed oil and fish oil. Buy a supplement that has both omega-3 and omega-6. Give Them An Oatmeal Bath Pet stores sell oatmeal shampoo you can bathe your pet with. You can also buy Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal to add to their bathing water. Acupressure By pressing on acupressure points, many along the body’s meridians, your pet’s balance can be restored. Here is a list of pressure points that could help your pet: - LI-4 (Large Intestine 4) located in the web of the dewclaw or where their dewclaw would be if your pet’s dewclaw has been removed.
- LI-11 (Large Intestine 11) located on outside of elbow where the crease forms.
- GB-20 (Gall Bladder 20) located behind the ears at the base of the skull.
